As the local rooftop runner (also referred to as the local lunatic by your neighbors due to your extreme hobbies), you have a single purpose. Run as far as you can! You don't need to press a button to run as you'll do it automatically thanks to your unending vigor. For jumping though, you should either press the SPACE BAR or the X key. Jump to close the gaps between the rooftops, cranes, and other features of your surroundings. The orange dusk might offer nice scenery but you have no time for such distractions. Keep your eyes on the track, or you might miss a jump and become the latest victim of the gravity as you fall down through a gap! You must time your jumps carefully. Not every gap is the same size and platforms you run on will have different lengths and heights. Some will require you to jump immediately while with others you may provide you with a little time to plan your actions more carefully.
